Amazon Takes Covers Off Prime Air Delivery Drone Design

Amazon is happy to give you a sneak peek of the design of its delivery drone that will replace humans (to a possibly very limited extent) in 2024.

The company's MK30 drone is a blue and white flying machine which lifts off on black rotary wings. Jeff Bezos has been dreaming about this for almost a decade now.

This new Prime Air delivery drone can handle high temperatures and light rain. It is almost 25% quieter than the MK27-2 models Amazon has been testing.

The drone can transport packages weighing up to 5 pounds (around 2.2 kilograms). Assuming the dimensions of the package also matter, these drones are not going to be able to replace human delivery partners soon, no matter what your avid sci-fi nerd friend will tell you.

Amazon assures you that they have taken a proven aerospace approach to design safety into the system. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be all over it to prove its safety and reliability, at any rate.

“We have created a sophisticated and industry-leading sense-and-avoid system that will allow our drones to operate at greater distances while safely and reliably avoiding other aircraft, people, pets, and obstacles,” declared Amazon.

US users who live in Lockeford, California and College Station, Texas will be among the first to receive Prime Air deliveries later in 2022.
