In case you were thinking of becoming healthier in the new year, getting more sun and exercise, grabbing a Google Pixel Watch fitness thingummy on a sweet Black Friday deal and kicking Epicurious out of your bookmarked sites, hold on just a second.
Google has confirmed that a bug in the Fitbit app of the Pixel Watch counts calories inaccurately. A recent article pointed out that when compared to a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, the Pixel Watch was found to count up to 50 per cent more calories burned.
Of course, that raised a lot of eyebrows. We mean, no smartwatch can be 100 per cent accurate in terms of calorie counts. But the Pixel Watch's numbers apparently vary so much when compared to the Galaxy Watch 5 or Apple Watch (according to various Pixel Watch users), it's clear that something's off.
The blame for the software glitch has obviously been shoved onto the accompanying Fitbit app, leaving us wondering how many poor mobile app developers got hoisted up by their unmentionables over this. A reboot is said to be the currently offered solution to this problem. Calorie counts during workouts are behaving as normal, according to Google.
The Pixel smartwatch calculates calories burned based on the users’ heart rate and activities. This data is compared against their age, height, and weight, similar to how other smartwatches and fitness trackers operate.
