A rather disturbing video has surfaced on YouTube and other social media channels of a Tesla car appearing to be out of control and pelting dangerously through the streets, as captured via various CCTV cameras.
According to reports, a Tesla Model Y crash in the Guangdong province of China killed two and injured three. The electric car company has responded by saying that it would assist Chinese authorities in investigating the accident which happened on November 5th, 2022.
There's intense debate on what caused the accident, but nothing official has been declared. After attempting to park unsuccessfully, the car was seen swerving between lanes at high speed, sideswiping cars and motorbikes before finally crashing into a store approximately 30 seconds and 2.6 kilometers later.
The driver is reported to have had issues with the brake pedal. This is not the first time rumors about a malfunctioning brake pedal on a Tesla have surfaced. Back in 2021, a Chinese customer staged a protest at Tesla's Shanghai Motor Show booth claiming that an accident she suffered was a result of the car's brake failure.
China is the EV company's second-largest market, and the crash was allegedly among the top trending topics on the Weibo social media platform on November 11th, 2022.
A lot of folks, with and without engineering expertise in their resume, have been tying the accident to everything from unintended acceleration to driver error to brake failure to the brake and accelerator pedals being too close together.
There's nothing to do but wait for further updates on this topic.
